Plumtree

PLUMTREE - Avery County community located on the North Toe River near Plumtree Creek, which the community is named after.  Plumtree Creek is named after the numerous plum orchards that were planted along the creek by the Avery and Connelly families.  Plumtree was home to the Tar Heel Company mica plant that produced lampshades among other items.  Today, a large campground attracts visitors throughout the year.  Plumtree is also home to the Trinity Tree Company.  Known most for their Christmas trees, the tree farm is also home to 'U-Pick' for strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries from June until the first frost of the year.
