Ingalls
INGALLS is named after a former Kansas Senator, John J. Ingalls. Ingalls served in the United States Senate from 1873-1891, serving as President pro tempore from 1887-1891. Ingalls died in 1900. The community was once called Keenerville. The Keenerville Post Office was renamed Elsie in 1882. The Elsie Post Office ended operation in 1904.
The Ingalls Post Office remained in operation until June 30, 1953, when several Avery County Post Offices were consolidated.
