Abandoned Tar River Bridge - Spring Hope
Quietly
hidden from the modern US 64 Freeway or the two lane highway that runs
through Spring Hope sits an old alignment of US 64 and the bridge that
carried the road over the Tar River. The bridge is a Camelback Truss
with concrete slab approach that seemed to be the common design of early
North Carolina steel truss bridges. A builders plate was not located
during this expedition so the age of this bridge is unknown at this time.
The Bridge is blocked off by dirt fill but it is very easy to climb over
and explore.
