Gold Rock

Originally incorporated in 1875 as Whitaker's Mills. Henry Whitaker was named the community's first mayor. Around 1890, a post office was established and the newly appointed postmaster, R. R. Gay, changed the name to avoid confusion with the nearby town of Whitakers.
