You read them while walking through downtown - when you visit a state park or historical site - stop at them when on a no particular place to go day trip - yep, you read historical markers. The silver tablets detailing towns, people, historic events, and places within North Carolina. They are all over the Old North State - and soon these historical markers will detail in 600,000 words the fabric that make up our home state.

The Wilmington Star News recently ran an article about the North Carolina Office of Archives and History project to document all 1,538 markers (and counting) online.
