Zirconia

ZIRCONIA - Henderson County community on old US 25 (modern-day NC 225) named after the nearby zircon mines that operated here in the 1880s.  Zircon was discovered in the area in 1869.  

Zirconia is the final name for the post office that was established here in 1875.  The community went by Green River, Coleman, back to Green River, before changing to Zirconia in 1890.
