T.R. Lee Country Store - Clayton
Just outside of the Johnston County Town of Clayton along Shotwell Road sits this beautifully restored old country store once run by T.R. Lee. Established in 1936, the country store was one of may businesses that the Lee family would operate in and around the Clayton area - some of them are still operating today.
The building appears to be now used for storage, but it has all of the features of an old country store - the twin gas pumps, the soft-drink sign, and the large overhang. The lamp between the two old manual gas pumps still operates and adds a little charm when driving past it at night.
I am not sure if this was the original location for the store - but judging by how it is offset from the road and the cleared area between Shotwell Road and the pumps - I believe it is.
